New Mumbai : A phenomenon called 'moonlighting' is currently taking root in the tech industry. It means working for other companies while working in one company. It's getting easier when working from home.
Work from home has become very popular due to Corona. Even today, many companies are allowing employees to work from home. This is saving the time of preparing to go to the office, coming and going. In this spare time, these employees are looking for work elsewhere. This second job in the IT sector has been discussed. Meanwhile, Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji has said that this is a risk with companies.
A phenomenon called 'moonlighting' is currently taking root in the tech industry. It means working for other companies while working in one company. It's getting easier when working from home. On this, Premji has said that this is a threat. "There's a lot of talk in the tech industry about people doing things other than their company work. It is clearly a fraud," he said.
The Wipro chairman's statement comes at a time when the company has decided to stop variable pay to employees due to increasing pressure on margins in the past. Company executive (C-suite) level managers will receive no portion of variable pay, while team leaders of new hires will receive 70 percent of total variable pay.
Recently, food delivery company Swiggy has launched a 'moonlighting' policy. Under this, employees can also do other work after approval of the company. Swiggy's HR head Girish Menon appeared to disagree with Premji's view. 'This is the future of the workplace. That is what we strive to do. This policy is comprehensive and not cruel,' he said.
